Communes of French Guiana

French Guiana is divided into two arrondissements, which are subdivided into communes. There are some maps showing the communes: one showing data , one clickable , and one  which is frustratingly hard to read. The table below shows all of the communes of French Guiana.

Change history (partial):

1879-10-15: Law passed authorizing the creation of communes in French Guiana. The first communes included Île-de-Cayenne et Tour de l'Île, Rémire, Roura, and Tonnégrande-Montsinéry.
1891-02-25: Name of Tour de l'Île commune changed to Matoury.
1968: Maripasouli commune created.
1969-03-17: Approuague commune merged with Régina; La Comte commune merged with Roura; Moyenne Mana commune merged with Mana; Samson commune merged with Saül; Grand-Santi-Papaïchton commune created.
1976-11-12: Apatou commune split from Grand-Santi-Papaïchton.
1988-12-31: Awala-Yalimapo commune split, probably from Mana. The date 1989-04-16 is also given.
1992: Grand-Santi-Papaïchton commune split into Grand-Santi and Papaïchton.
